四六级英语考试“口语化”“花式”汉译英“点评”：坎儿井汉译英死活想不起来：地下是什么来着？人类怎么拼?保护是什么什么？灌溉是irr什么什么来着?问题是：汉译英时，你为什么非得用那个“你不会”的词儿？四六级英语考试中的“汉译英”部分，对于绝大多数非英语专业的考生而言，掌握4000左右的词汇量应该可以做到足以“汉译英”表达多数的中文原文的意思了，而不是像英语作业学生那样，“有多少多样性的短文就必须掌握相对应的词汇量”，而这些英语表达或词汇量其实又是我所说的throw-away words，即“用过就扔词汇”，记忆掌握它们没有多少意思，除了考试外平时“使用率”几乎“千山鸟飞绝，万径人踪灭”。因此，四六级英语考试的“汉译英”对于多数考生而言，重要的是训练他们熟练运用已知的学过的4000左右词汇量，“以不变应万变”“翻译”任何考试中出现的汉译英短文。四六级翻译内容涉及中国的历史、文化、经济、社会发展等，作为有自己专业，却不是英语作业的考生除了死记硬背无数可能出现在考题里的汉语短文的“标准答案”考试答题外，怎么可能像英语作业的学生那样把各门学科的专业词汇或专门词汇都熟记于胸，做到像英语专业学生那样“什么文章都能翻译”？再者，所列的这些汉语短文基本又是非常书面语的表达，这些书面语的翻译工作应该由专业翻译去完成。有了四六级4000多词汇就能运用自如地翻译各类汉语短文，这才是考试英语“学以致用”的语言能力。同时它也符合“汉译英”考试评分标准的基本原则：译文基本表达了原文的意思（也就是说可以“解读”为不一定“非得要你用上跟标准答案一样的那个词才能得分)。结构较清晰，语言通顺，但有少量语言错误。能做到这样的标准，基本上就可以拿到8-11分。标准里似乎也没有特别注明用词“深浅”，也就是说，我们可以处理成更“口语化”的英文“解说”。一、很书面化的“解说词”原文：坎儿井坎儿井(Karez)是新疆干旱地区的一-种水利系统，由地下渠道将水井连接而成。该系统将春夏季节渗入(seep into)地下的大量雨水及积雪融水收集起来，通过山体的自然坡度引到地面，用于灌溉农田和满足人们的日常用水需求。坎儿井减少了水在地面的蒸发(evaporation),对地表破坏很小，因而有效地保护了自然资源与生态环境。坎儿井体现了我国人民与自然和谐共存的智慧，是对人类文明的一大贡献。二、“口语化”“花式”汉译英：Karez is a system of wells widely used/popular in Xinjiang for its dry soil/land.The wells are connected/joined/linked together by underground channels.The wells collect water from rainfalls or melt snow seeping into the ground in spring and summer.The water is then introduced up to the ground surface through the natural slops of hills.The wells supply water for farming and for local people' daily use/consumption.Karez slows water on ground surface from going up in the air.It also does little harm to the surface.Both the natural resources and eco-environment are therefore under good protection.Karez is a good example that shows the wisdom of the Chinese people in living in harmony with nature in addition to a great/tremendous contribution to human civilization/the civilization of man/mankind.

“点评”：1、“水利”，再加上后文解释，不就是systems of wells吗？为什么非得折磨自己，说water conservancy不可？2、“干旱”，不就是dry soil吗？为什么非得用一个“偏僻词”arid，而且“干旱”的是soil or land，不是region呀？3、“灌溉”就是water supply呀！“何以解忧，何必唯有irrigate”？只要善于运用已知的学过的4000词汇，完全可以避开只有“专业翻译”才考虑的用词：水利系统，干旱地区（其实，“地区”用soil,land比region更切合英语的用词搭配），灌溉等等“专业专门”词汇。如果是现场解说，“口语化”的表达和用词更好些。如果是书面表达，还是交由专业翻译更合适。三、很“书面语”的参考答案The Karezisa water conservancy system in the arid regions of Xinjang, consisting of underground channels connecting wells.
